The Relevance of Archives in University Libraries: A Case Study of Uganda Christian University
Creators
Description
Archives are an integral part of university libraries, serving as custodians of historical, academic, and cultural records. This paper explores the role of archives within the context of Uganda Christian University (UCU), highlighting their significance in supporting research, preserving institutional memory, and contributing to the university's educational mission. Through a case study approach, the study examines the archival services provided by UCU’s library, the challenges faced, and the opportunities for improving archival practices to meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, and the broader community. Findings suggest that archives not only preserve historical documents but also foster academic inquiry, assist in the development of critical thinking, and enhance the university’s contribution to knowledge creation and dissemination.
