Getting Started with BAOBAB
Accessing BAOBAB
You can access BAOBAB through your web browser by navigating to https://baobab.wacren.net. Ensure that you have a stable internet connection for the best experience.
Creating an Account & Managing Community Memberships
As a community admin, you can invite members by clicking "Invite Members" on the community page. Monitor membership requests and approve or deny them from the community management panel.
Logging In
- Click on the "Log In" button.
- Enter your email address and password.
- Click "Log In" to access your dashboard.
User Dashboard Overview
Your dashboard is the central hub for managing your activities on BAOBAB. Here you can view recent records, manage your collections, and access community functions.
Managing Your Profile
- Navigate to the profile section by clicking on your username in the top right corner.
- Update your personal information, such as your name and profile picture.
- Save changes to keep your profile up to date.
How to Make Your Profile Visible
- Expand the right-side panel on the interface by clicking the button on the far right of your screen.
- Navigate to the "Profile" section in your account.
- Scroll down to the "Preferences" section and find the "Profile Visibility" setting.
- Change the visibility status from "Hidden" to "Public."
- Click "Update Preferences" to save your changes.
Searching and Browsing
Basic Search
Use the search bar at the top of any page to quickly find records by keywords. Press "Enter" to view search results.
Advanced Search
Click on "Advanced Search" next to the search bar. Use filters like date, author, or subject to narrow down your search. Click "Search" to apply filters.
Filtering Results
On the search results page, use the sidebar to apply additional filters. Select options like "Open Access" or "Peer-reviewed" to refine results.
Uploading a New Record
- Click on "Upload" from your dashboard.
- Fill in metadata fields such as resource type, title, description, author, and keywords.
- Attach files if necessary.
- Click "Publish" to upload your record.
Editing and Deleting Records
Editing an Existing Record
- Navigate to your records from the dashboard.
- Click "Edit" next to the record you wish to update.
- Make changes and save them.
Deleting a Record
- Find the record you want to delete in your records list.
- Click "Delete" and confirm the action.
Uploading a Record as Part of a Community
- Navigate to the community where you would like to upload your record.
- Fill in the required metadata fields, such as resource type, title, description, and author.
- Attach any necessary files.
- Click on the "Submit for Review" button.
- The community owner will review your submission and either accept and publish or decline the record.
For Community Owners
- Go to "My Dashboard" by expanding the right panel.
- Select "Communities" and choose the community you're managing.
- Navigate to "Requests" to review records.
- Choose to either "Accept and Publish" or "Decline" the record.
Notification System Overview
BAOBAB includes a notification system to keep you informed about important activities. Notifications are sent via email based on your preferences.
Setting Notification Preferences
- Go to your account settings by clicking on your profile.
- Select "Notifications" from the menu.
- Choose the types of activities for which you'd like to receive notifications, such as invitations, decisions, or updates.
- Save your preferences.
Understanding Notification Types
- Community Invitations: Receive an email when you invite someone to a community. You'll also be notified when they accept or decline the invitation.
- Record Updates: Get notified when records you're following are updated.
- Community Updates: Stay informed about new activities or announcements within your communities.
User Roles and Permissions
Overview of Roles
- Admin: Full access to all functionalities.
- Editor: Can manage records and moderate community activities.
- Member: Can contribute to communities and collections.
Assigning Permissions
- Admins can assign roles by navigating to the "Roles" section in community settings.
- Select a user and assign the appropriate role.
Account Settings
Updating Email and Password
- Go to account settings and select "Security."
- Update your email or password and save changes.
