Building Institutional Reputation, Research Impact and Global Visibility: The role of researchers, students and the university community in making institutional excellence visible

Authors/Creators

Description

Prof. M. Adeleke, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, presents university visibility as the discoverability, recognition, and trustworthiness of an institution's knowledge, people, and achievements as a strategic priority rather than a mere PR function. He notes that Africa's limited share of global knowledge production stems less from weak research activity than from poor visibility of its outputs, and stresses that visibility drives reputation, funding, partnerships, and impact. Researchers and students are framed as key ambassadors, building visibility through scholarly profiles, publications, and achievements, while the whole university community management, librarians, ICT, and communications must share this responsibility.

He then highlights concrete steps FUHSI is taking despite being a young institution, including sponsoring researchers at conferences, running three institutional journals, developing an open-access repository, partnering with initiatives such as LIBSENSE, and promoting student and institutional achievements through digital platforms. He closes with a call to action, urging the university community to ensure that FUHSI's excellence is not just built but made visible and trusted globally, since "excellence that remains invisible cannot achieve its full potential for impact."
