THE ONE HEALTH INTERFACE IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION ON THE KASOA-WINNEBA ROAD: PROCESSES, OUTCOMES, AND IMPACTS

  • 1. University of Ghana

Description

Road construction is crucial for economic growth, connectivity, and trade, but it also has far-reaching effects on human health, the environment, and social systems. Using the One Health approach, this discussion examines the interplay between infrastructure development and its consequences, such as air pollution, respiratory diseases, and ecosystem disruption.

Focusing on the Kasoa-Winneba road project, which includes 16 km of service roads, interchanges, a flyover, footbridges, culverts, and walkways, the study highlights expected improvements in travel efficiency, pedestrian safety, and traffic management. However, it also addresses the environmental and health challenges posed by such developments. The discussion explores the intersection of road construction and public health through real-world examples.
